Want to learn more about our amazing literacy program?
At Kool Kids we are passionate about ensuring all our children develop positive attitudes with regards to reading and writing. We therefore follow the ILR program in all classrooms, explicitly and systematically teaching early literacy skills using a fun play based approach to create a habitat in which to nurture reading and writing. Our aim is not only to ensure that your children develop a love for literacy, but also that they acquire the foundations to build upon this throughout their learning journey. We are therefore confident that your child will be school ready and will leave us with the required literacy skills for Pre or Grade 1 level.
What is ILR?
I Love Reading (ILR) is a unique literacy program designed to facilitate the rapid learning of reading English. The program takes the complexity out of the English language and makes decoding words easier and faster by helping early learners to grasp the English language from a young age.
Using the English Phonetic Code, students are first taught to recognise letters and sounds before applying their knowledge to reading and writing simple words and sentences. ILR students explore educational concepts, skills and ideas, years ahead of their expected levels meaning that they are better prepared to make the transition to Big School.
Are the educators trained to deliver the program?
Yes. Our educators receive thorough in depth training where they are able to learn about both the theory behind the program and ways in which to apply this practically in the classrooms. We also provide in house follow up training and support on a daily basis within our centre.
How can I help my child?
There are so many ways that parents can help their child to develop a love for reading. These include:
- Attending one of our exciting parent workshops (please see our Director for further details)
- Reading to your child
- Taking your child to the local library
- Talking to your baby
- Singing nursery rhymes
Can I access resources to support my child’s progress?
Yes. There are a range of interactive resources that you may access via the ILR website.
We also have a range of story sacks that you are able to loan directly from our centre. Please see our Director for further details.
