In recognition of the importance of NAIDOC week Konstantina, an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist and parent to one of our little beanz, came to visit our Mullumbimby centre for storytime. Kate’s work re-imagines the traditions of her peoples’ dot painters and provides a modern narrative for all Australians to better understand First Nations People as an immensely important part of the fabric in Australian culture.

Kate read the children two stories and shared her beautiful illustrations that are to be published into children’s books. She also kindly donated cushions illustrated with the design associated with the stories to include all kids in Koori culture and enable Kate to connect her art with young hearts and minds.

A 30-something Koori woman of the Eora Nation, Kate is a proud Gadigal artist who was born and bred on her own country.  In her work she directly portrays the struggle, inspiration, challenges and daily turmoil she feels at being a mum, a storyteller, a creative, a woman and above all a connected Aboriginal woman to the land, animals and spirit of country into her modern take on a time honoured tradition of dot painting.

Here you can enjoy storytime at home….
